What can a laser scanner do for me?

A laser scanner preserves the scene by measuring everything visible from the laser scanner’s position.  As compared to a typical total station, which records hundreds of points over several hours, the laser scanner records millions of points and photographs in just a few minutes.  The millions of points create what is known as a point cloud.  Computer software provides the ability to view the point cloud as a three-dimensional virtual scene.  The scene can now be revisited any time and measurements taken to any object that can be seen from the scanner’s position.

Because the newer laser scanners are smaller and portable, they can be moved around the scene easily creating multiple scans and provide complete coverage to all the evidence.
